From Coach Shayne:
Our U19s hosted Leeds Knights in an entertaining, experimental match where the team leading scorers shuffled positions to gain fresh perspectives and experience the game from new angles. The result? A fun, dominant performance and a solid home victory.
Josh and Heath dropped back to defense and led from the blue line with poise and skill. Johannes joined the pack to form a strong, creative 5-man unit with veterans Jamie and Callum that kept things exciting and effective. Euan (recent MVP) returned to his preferred forward wing spot alongside Tom for some dynamic play up front. James joined the forwards jumping up to take on an offensive role with fast skating Isaac. Roller legend Alfie also joined the offensive unit at centre.
Big welcome back to MSA star Kane, who slotted in as assistant captain and made his presence felt all game long!
Scoring kicked off early and often for MSA. Team Captain Callum blasted a top-shelf slapshot to open things up ⚡then Kane took over, gliding through defenders with ease and showcasing his exceptional scoring touch – finding the net seemingly at will!
Lucas added a timely beauty with his lethal wrist shot – a threat from anywhere! Josh joined the rush, sniping one off a breakaway and weaving through Leeds forcheckers and D on 200 feet sprints from our net. Heath piled on two goals, extending his brilliant U19s scoring run – and he’s still only 15!
Speaking of 15-year-olds, Johannes (usually a forward) was outstanding on D with deceptive moves, puck protection and smart plays all night. Illyssa impressed the coaches with her relentless backchecking – she never gives up on a play! 💪 Fin backstopped us solidly once again, limiting Leeds to just three goals despite several grade A chances in front of net.
MVP: Kane 🏅
Hat trick hero with confident leadership – the Big Number 5 is someone the whole team looks up to. An impactful return!
Loved seeing the positional experiments pay off with contributions everywhere. This group has heart, versatility, and growing chemistry. Proud of the effort at home!
Thanks to all who came out to the Storm Shelter – let’s keep building.
